The Smart Health Centers project places trained health information specialists in clinics to assist patients in connecting to their own medical records and find reliable information about their own conditions.
This initiative was originally funded through the BTOP PCC project for computers & equipment along with a grant from the Otho S. A. Sprague Memorial Institute for training and patient engagement around technology. The Sprague Institute has continued funding of the program and their Executive Director, Jim Alexander, has been the key conceptual leader in the growth of the program.
The project has led to the creation of dozens of new community technology centers across the city.
